what is difficult women book club?
we are a book club that reads books written by women! DWBC is unique because we have an international community; there are chapters just like this one in cities all around the world! We all read and discuss the same book in our little international community!
the original DWBC was started by linda in Barcelona, Spain! She’s awesome :)
how do i join the book club?
send me a DM on instagram saying you want to join! that’s it, you’re in! i will add you to the group chat
who can join?
ANYONE AND EVERYONE
how does it work?
each month, we read a new book written by a female-identifying author. at the end of the month/beginning of the next month, we will meet and discuss the book.
the length of the meetings are unpredictable, but they seem to range anywhere between 1.5-2 hours. if you have to leave early, that’s fine!
important updates/info will always be on the instagram feed and in the group chat!
how do you select the book?
we have a ‘to be read’ (TBR) list with a bunch of books on it. books are submitted to the TBR by chapter heads. if you have a book you would like the club to read, let me know and i can submit it!
at some point, it will appear in the shortlist where members of each chapter can vote.
Linda (founder of DWBC) sends an email to chapter heads with the shortlist of books each month, including their title and summary.
chapter heads send the same info to their club (i send it in our group chat). you will then vote for the book that you think is the most appealing.
the book that wins our vote will be submitted to a poll that combines the votes of all the chapters around the world.
the book with the most votes wins! this is the book we will read for the following month.
we do this so that everyone has a say in the selection process!
do i have to read every book and come to every meeting?
no! this is a hobby. do what works for you. no apologies or explanations necessary.
if you plan on coming to the meetings, i encourage you to read the entire book so you can make the most of the discussion, but life happens! if you can’t read/finish the book, you are still welcome to join us!
what are the meetings like?
our meetings are a SAFE SPACE for all. to maintain this, we have a few guidelines:
NO HATE SPEECH/DISCRIMINATION.. obviously. be kind.
listen when others are talking- try not to interrupt. you will always have a chance to speak
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS… due to the nature of our books and discussions, things might get very personal. we have to trust each other and maintain confidentiality when it comes to personal stories/experiences. if someone has shared something private, please respect this and do not share it with others once you leave the discussion.
no pressure! if you want to attend a meeting but don’t really feel like talking, that’s fine! i will never put anyone on the spot or force you to talk! no judgement either.
don’t be afraid to share your thoughts! there is no right or wrong interpretation in this club… it’s not an exam. say whatever! i promise it’ll be relevant and insightful.
TRY TO BE ON TIME. usually i give people a few extra minutes to arrive and get settled, but eventually we have to start. if you are late, don’t worry at all! just join in whenever you can!
if you have any feedback/concerns, PLEASE REACH OUT! i am always open to making the club more accessible and a good experience for all! i will try my hardest to make things happen.
you can talk to me via dm on instagram, or anonymously via this link
PLEASE REACH OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS/CONCERNS!
